What we're doing...
The planning phase of my project will involve multiple steps to include deciding on the project idea, making a design of the project, filling out paper work, fundraising, and getting approval from council and our sponsor (the Battleship New Jersey). Once that stage is completed, I can begin making a plan to build the actual project. The project is going to include four tables and eight benches for the Battleship New Jersey's cafe area.
The following image is our inspiration for the final product. Our hope is to build something that will last for decades without the need for replacement. To do that, we will need to use the appropriate weather and insect resistant wood. Some of these include teak, ipe, cedar, cypress, white oak and mahogany. A number of these are cost-prohibitive, so we'll need to do some research on the best option for our project. One item we're excited to incorporate into our table and benches are pieces of the battleship's teak flooring that was recently replaced. We hope to use some of this wood for the thinner parts of the project.

Here is an initial design we made in Sketchup. This tool will help us figure out our materials list and dimensions.
